Table Tennis Tournament Held at CWU
The Table Tennis Tournament 2022 organized by the Sports Club concluded in a festive mood on October 02 with a prize giving ceremony held at the lobby on the campus. A total of 24 contestants took part in the competition, which started on September 21. The tournament was conducted via multiple phases: 1st round, 2nd round, semifinals and final. Sumaya Alam became the champion while Synthia Rahman and Afrin Meheruba became 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up respectively. All of them belong to the Department of Business Administration.
In her welcoming speech, moderator of the Sports Club Ms. Mehdina Kabir Tamanna thanked everyone, including members of the club, match officials, volunteers, the proctor and the photographer for their contribution to make the tournament a success. She also announced that a badminton tournament would be held soon.
Mr. Elias Ahmed, the Registrar of the university highlighted the significance of sports as a part of mental and intellectual development of students apart from academic activities. Citing examples of the successes of Bangladeshi girls in the just concluded SAFF U-18 Football Tournament (Female) and the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup, he emphasized wider participation of female students in outdoor games.
The Chairperson of Department of Business Administration and the acting Vice Chancellor, Mr. Hasan Shirazi congratulated the champion and runners-up of the tournament and appreciated the Sports Club for the successful organization of the contest. He also expressed his hope that such tournaments would be organized at regular intervals for greater well-being of the students.
The prize giving ceremony concluded with the acting VC and the Registrar handing over the trophies to the Champion and Runners-up, followed by an official photo-shoot. The program was anchored by Ishrat Kabir Mithila of the Department of Business Administration.
