Carrom Tournament Held at CWU
The carrom tournament 2022 organized by the Sports Club concluded in a festive mood on May 17 with a prize giving ceremony at the lobby on the campus. A total of 20 teams (40 members) took part in the competition, which started on May 09. The tournament was conducted via multiple phases: 1st round, 2nd round, semifinals and final. Ripa Tasnim Mouri and Arpita Das of the Department of English Language and Literature became champions of the inaugural edition beating their nearest rivals Sadia Ahmed and Puja Ghosh of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in a fiercely contested final match.
In her welcoming speech, moderator of the Sports Club Ms. Mehdina Kabir Tamanna thanked everyone, including members of the club, match officials, volunteers, the proctor and the IT official for their contribution to make the tournament a success. Mr. Elias Ahmed, the Registrar of the university highlighted the significance of sports as a part of mental and intellectual development of students apart from academic activities. He also mentioned that the permanent campus of the university now under construction would have a sufficient space for outdoor sports to the cheer of the students.
The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Perween Hasan congratulated both champions and runners-up of the tournament and appreciated the Sports Club for the successful organization of the contest after a COVID 19-induced hiatus of two years. She also expressed her hope that such tournaments would be organized round the year.
The prize giving ceremony concluded with the VC and the Registrar handing over the trophies to the Champions and Runners-up, followed by an official photo-shoot.
