Research and Storytelling in Nonfiction Writing

An orientation session titled “Slow Journalism: Research and Storytelling in Nonfiction Writing”, a joint initiative of Central Women’s University and Drik Trust, was held with great enthusiasm at Central Women’s University. The session was conducted by renowned Bangladeshi photojournalist and activist Shahidul Alam and was open to all students of the university. The program aimed at introducing participants to the principles of slow journalism, emphasizing research-driven, ethical, and impactful storytelling. The session was anchored by Asrafun Naher, Lecturer at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, who also served as the workshop facilitator. Kazi Nafia Rahman, Lecturer at the same department and Faculty Coordinator of the program, coordinated the session. Saydia Gulrukh, Director of Drik Picture Library and journalist at New Age, provided a brief overview of the program, highlighting its objectives and structure. The session concluded with inspiring remarks from the Vice-Chancellor of Central Women’s University, Dr. Perween Hasan, who encouraged the students to engage deeply with responsible and reflective journalism practices.
