Hamlet Takes Center Stage at CWU!
The CWU Auditorium came alive on November 2, 2025 as two student groups from the Shakespeare course brought their creative adaptations of Hamlet to the stage. Guided by the course instructor Mr. Asif Nawaz, the performances offered fresh interpretations of the timeless tragedy, blending classical language with contemporary sensibilities. The event attracted a lively audience of students representing different departments across the university. Adding to the occasion’s significance, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Perween Hasan, Professor Ahmed Abdullah Jamal, Treasurer; Mr. Elias Ahmed, Registrar; and Mr. Abdus Selim, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of English Language and Literature, accompanied by a number of other departmental heads were also present. What unfolded on stage was not merely a reenactment of Shakespeare’s classic, but a dialogue between past and present—where questions of identity, morality, and power were reimagined through youthful vision and cultural context. In her closing remarks, Professor Perween Hasan appreciated the students’ interpretive courage and theatrical craft, while Mr. Abdus Selim commended their dedication to literary and performative excellence. The event concluded with warm applause, marking the enduring power of Shakespeare in a Bangladeshi academic setting.
