Observance of 108th birthday of Poet Sufia Kamal
The Department of Sociology and Gender Studies of Central Women’s University arranged a program on the occasion of the celebration of the 108th birth anniversary of the eminent Poet Sufia Kamal on June 20, 2019 in the university conference room. Prof. Dr. Maleka Begum, Chairperson of the department delivered a welcome speech. Dr. Fouzia Moslem, Vice-President of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and Ms. Saida Kamal, an artist and daughter of the poet were present in the program as guest speakers. Dr. Perween Hasan, Vice-chancellor of the university addressed the audience and greeted the guest speakers with crests. One of the students of the department read a short bio of the poet. Ameera, daughter of Jannat Ara Ferdushi, a student of SGS dept. recited a poem by Sufia Kamal. Two of the poet’s favourite songs were played in the program. Tasfia Tanjim, a faculty of the department conducted the program. Dr. M. Mufakkharul Islam, Treasurer, Mr. Elias Ahmed, Registrar, faculty members and students from different departments were also present in the program. All the faculty members of the department extended their all-out support to arrange the program. The department thanked Tusar Talukder, Assistant Professor and Jayed-Ul-Ehsan, Lecturer, Dept. of English Language and Literature for their co-operation.
